To discover the magic of the rural world is to discover L’Alta Anoia. Its plains, its woods and its villages are often the setting for ancient legends in a region dotted with little churches and castles, such as the one at La Manresana dels Prats del Rei, with a round tower that is twenty-three metres high and which was built in the eleventh and twelfth centuries. Or Boixadors Castle, in Sant Pere Sallavinera, a complex of great architectural value that shows the transition from Romanesque to Gothic. The Popular Army Memorial in Pujalt is an important witness to events in more recent history, on the site of a Republican army camp during the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939.
