A water crossroads

Baix Llobregat is an ideal region for water lovers, since it's difficult to find a corner where you can't hear the flow of a river or the waves of the sea. In the triangle formed by the towns of Collbató, Castelldefels and El Prat you can explore caves, pools, wetlands and beaches of great natural value, along with plenty of elements of historical and cultural interest, such as mines, textile colonies, wells and locks. You're sure to be surprised by some of the main tourist attractions of the area.

Water is precisely what has formed the impressive karst landscapes that can be admired on a visit to the Salnitre Caves in Collbató. The 500-metre route takes you through the cave's most spacious passageways, where you can appreciate the different generations of stalactites and stalagmites hidden inside Montserrat Mountain

Just a few kilometres away, between Sant Andreu de la Barca and Corbera de Llobregat, another interesting trail is found that follows the intermittent stream between the two towns. This is the Can Palet Path, a walk in the heart of nature that takes in wonderful beauty spots such as the Mola d'en Valls pool, the pou de glaç (ice well) and the aqueduct.

In Santa Coloma de Cervelló a must-see attraction is the Güell Colony, the largest modernist colony (workers' village) in Catalonia. Here is where the workers of the velvet and corduroy factory of the Güell family lived. Make sure you don't leave without visiting the Gaudí Crypt, a very striking structure that has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The protected areas of the Llobregat Delta are the last stop on this route from the north to the south of the county. In this setting of wetlands, pine groves, dunes and beaches, you can enjoy the immense biological wealth of a nature reserve covering almost 1,000 hectares.

•    Have you got the itch to catch some rays? No problem! In the county of Baix Llobregat there are 15 kilometres of amazing beaches.
