Exhibition: Badalona and the Catalan catamaran
On the occasion of the America's Cup sailing event, for which Badalona is hosting some of the competitions, the museum is devoting an exhibition to Catalan catamaran sailing.
The origins of the Catalan catamaran in fact lie in our town, where it was first used in the early 20th century. Later on, the Mongé brothers, linked to the Club Natació Badalona, developed the design that was adopted in 1943 as the official model for competitions. Moreover, in 1968 another local, Antoni Soler, created the so-called junior Catalan catamaran.
The importance and popularity of the Catalan catamaran was made clear in 2008, when it was recognised at a full council meeting as the authentic craft of Badalona, and in 2010 when, while Badalona was Capital of Catalan Culture, it was chosen as one of the seven "treasures" of the town's cultural heritage.
