The kingdom of cava
If you want to know everything about the world of cava, the town of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia has a cava centre, where you can expand your knowledge and hear lots of anecdotes. Cava Centre, a former distillery built in 1814, now offers a fascinating journey through the kingdom of the bubbly elixir – a drink that has demolished the boundaries of the regions of Barcelona.
With interactive displays, large-format audiovisuals, animations, aromas and music the Cava Centre offers a journey of discovery through the origins, history, production process and quality control of a sparkling wine regulated by the Cava Denomination of Origin. You can see a vine sprout before your eyes, learn about the phylloxera plague, which devastated the region's vineyards in the late 19th century, and have the opportunity to touch a specimen of this insect. You will also experience the traditions, culture, art of living and spirit of celebration associated with responsible consumption of cava – a drink that is synonymous with celebration in Catalonia.
The duration of your visit to Cava Centre can range between one and one and a half hours, depending on how deeply you delve into the subject matter. Also, if you come with your children, you need not worry about them getting bored: the exhibition is set up so attractively that they will be enthralled. And there is a treat in store for you when you finish your visit: a glass of cava to send you on your way with the best possible taste in your mouth.
