Six cycling routes for the whole family

Sports shoes, comfortable clothes, a helmet and a bike. That is all you need if you want to spend a great day cycling close to home. Go for a family ride, enjoy nature and learn about history with these six cycling routes we suggest below.

From Can Pedret to Rosal

A fun tour, suitable for all ages and highly recommended for having a good time following the old route of the now disappeared Carrilet, which connected the Berguedà region from north to south and was crucial for the economic and industrial development of the region. The excursion meets all the requirements for an idyllic day out: a flat, quiet, shady route, along the river and with stops at iconic places in Berguedà, such as Church of Sant Quirze, a pre-Romanesque chapel dating from the 3rd century. Inside, the wall paintings have been reproduced just as they were in the Middle Ages. To get there, you have to cross the scenic Pont de Pedret, a very well-preserved medieval arched bridge that is also a perfect place to soak your feet or take a photo and post a video on TikTok.

It is a linear 10-kilometre route (5 km each way) that runs along the greenway, from the old Cal Rosal colony to the Pedret bridge, following the course of the Llobregat River. The route follows the GR-270, which is perfectly signposted with white and red markings. Here you can see the circuit in more detail.

Tordera River route

As its name says, the Tourdera route is a great opportunity to go on a tour along the Arbúcies Creek and the Tordera River. It is a tour with its own personality, full of surprising contrasts that connect the Montseny massif with the Mediterranean beaches.

The route can be done in different ways Sections, both on foot and by bicycle. If you travel with children, we recommend you take the section between Malgrat de Mar and Palafolls. It is a pleasant walk along 7 kilometres. Start at the train station in Malgrat de Mar, where you will find the first signpost of the route and cycle towards the beaches and the mouth of the Tordera River, until you reach the village of Palafolls.

On the Tourdera.cat website, you can see the active sections and an interactive map with the excursions. You can also find additional information, such as the main sights or the service's facilities.

The Vic Green Ring

The Green Ring is a 32-km intermediate circuit around the capital of Osona. If you take it, you will be able to enjoy a day in the middle of different natural sites and thrilling historical areas. It is a long tour, so if you are traveling with children, we advise you to plan a whole day trip. You will surely find several places to rest, as the circuit is superbly equipped with picnic areas, fountains and playgrounds for children.

The whole ring is signposted with an orange spot on a green background. The path is marked both ways and can be accessed from any point. You can download the map of the area.

Llevant farmhouses

The Llevant farmhouse route is a pleasant 10-km circular outing ideal for the whole family, especially in spring or autumn. It runs around the village of Matadepera through an extensive wooded area with wide tracks and no technical difficulties. On this trip, you will be able to enjoy the outstanding Sant Llorenç de Munt Nature Park and see farmhouses that are part of the cultural history of the municipality.

A good starting point is the Matadepera municipal sports centre. Once there, head towards the Tartana spring and go gently uphill until you reach the Can Solà creek. The trip continues to Mont-rodon, from where you start the final descent to return to the town.

Sitges vineyards

This is an excellent route for cycling among the vineyards and the Garraf Park. A 25-km circular tour with a scenic landscape combining vineyards, farmhouses, castles (including the iconic Ribes Castle) and the sea in the background. This is a slightly more technical outing that is ideal for families with young people or groups of friends.

The circuit starts in the city of Sitges. A good starting point is located in front of the iconic Maricel Museum. From this well-known institution in the city, cycle towards Avinguda de les Flors to continue up to the Can Bruguera tower.

There, follow a track parallel to the vineyards towards Torrent de les Gralles, from where you reach the village of Sant Pere de Ribes. Once you are there, you can visit the emblematic Ribes Castle and return to the starting point via the Terramar racetrack.

You can round off the route enjoying the stunning sea with crystal clear water or visiting the well-known church of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla.

Llobregat Delta

If you love wildlife and birds, this Route is for you! A circular trip on level terrain and suitable for everyone. All you have to worry about is pedalling and keeping quiet so as not to scare birds and animals. You will be able to see up to 350 different species!

Along the route there are also historical buildings, such as the Carrabiners barracks or the Semàfor del Delta viewpoint, whereas at the end of the circuit you will reach the best observatory to watch the planes take off. A show that will leave you in awe.

There are three tours, all of them signposted. If you start in the Cal Tet-Ca l'Arana area (tours 1 and 2 of 3 and 5 km, respectively), you will be able to see the stunning panoramic view of the river and observe its fauna. On the other hand, if you choose to start in the Bunyola area (tour 3, 4 km long), you will be able to see the Carrabiners buildings and the Semàfor viewpoint.
