From fair to fair

The gastronomy of the regions of Barcelona is as diverse as its landscape. The province's enormous range of agricultural areas and prodigiously rich sea coast are the source of an infinite variety of produce that can be found every day in its markets and, more specifically, in its numerous traditional food fairs

Food fairs are a great opportunity to find out about each region's most popular foods. Unique local products, such as snails from Anoia, oil from Bages, truffles from Berguedà, strawberries from Maresme, black cock from Penedès and mushrooms from Vallès, which will surprise and delight you in equal measure.

Would you prefer to enjoy local flavours in the context of traditional festivals? Well, this is also possible, because many food fairs are organised around historical celebrations, which combine a festive atmosphere with sampling of the best produce of the land and sea. Some examples include Montmaneu's Cauldron Fair, in which food is served to the general public at Carnival time; Vilanova de Sau's Medicinal Herb Fair at around the time of Saint Pontius' day; Calaf's All Saints' Fair, with its displays of autumn fruits; and the Christmas fairs of Cardedeu and Llinars del Vallès, where you can buy top-quality handmade nougat.

The regions of Barcelona's food fairs and festivals are not to be missed! You will discover the province and, while you are there, sample the specialities of popular Catalonian cuisine.
