In Costa Barcelona, the Catalonian Amphibian and Reptile Rescue Centre (CRARC) in Masquefa is responsible for treating local wildlife found injured or helpless for whatever reason. But its great importance in the protection of species goes beyond its work as an animal hospital. The CRARC also tries to completely rehabilitate tortoises, lizards and its other young patients, so that they can return to their natural environments fully fit and able to look after themselves. If you would like to take part in the animal release days that the centre regularly organises, take a look at its calendar of activities!
One of the leading centres in the world for the rescue, treatment and recuperation of marine wildlife is located on the beach of El Prat de Llobregat. The Marine Wildlife Rescue Centre (CRAM) offers facilities that are unique in Europe for the treatment of cetaceans, turtles and seabirds, and a team of people ready for action to help species 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, all along the Catalonian coast. The CRAM also arranges very well-organised visits for the general public to observe the recuperation of the animals without causing them distress and offers the opportunity for anyone to sponsor them, if they wish to do so. Think about it! Would you like to sponsor a turtle?
For forty years, Fuives, a country estate in the region of Berguedà, has been a zoological centre, as well as a nature reserve and scenic area, specialising in the conservation and rescue of the Catalonian donkey.
