In summer, head for the beach!

We just love the sea and every single one of the beaches along the 100-km stretch of coastline that makes up the Costa Barcelona. To the north you'll find wide and long beaches, such as those of Calella and Santa Susanna. Meanwhile, to the south, fine, golden-sand beaches, such as those of Castelldefels, stand in stark contrast to the sheer cliffs of the Garraf coast and small coves tucked among them, such as La Vinyeta, easily accessible.

It's a coastline just waiting to be explored from north to south. Discover its beaches and enjoy your favourite water sports and activities, whether alone or with the family. Malgrat de Mar, Santa Susanna, Pineda de Mar and Calella are Family Tourism Destinations, with plenty of convenient beach services and activities that make them ideal for visiting with children.

And, if sport is your thing, the Sports Tourism Destinations of Santa Susanna, Calella and Castelldefels offer everything you need: amenities, accommodation and services to keep you active. Along the coast you'll find nine marinas, several yacht clubs and two nautical centres: in Santa Susanna and in Vilanova i la Geltrú, where sailing and windsurfing are the main water sports.

A few suggestions, from north to south: Canet de Mar boasts long, flat beaches and a nature reserve, where you can discover local plant species such as sea fennel or European searocket. In the seafaring town of Arenys de Mar, stroll around the port and take part in the fish auction at the fish market. Mataró offers great shopping right next to the beaches with top brands and the charm of traditional Mediterranean markets. And if you fancy an appetizer right next to the beach or a coffee in the port, the peaceful town of Premià de Mar is just what you're looking for.

Then, make your way to a Badalona, with its seafront promenade, Pont del Petroli pier, old quarter and summer nights on the terrace of the Anís del Mono factory. In Castelldefels, kids will have a great time building sandcastles on the fine-sand beaches. And for something romantic, you have evenings and cultural activities in Sitges... or a delicious rice dish at the Vilanova i la Geltrú fish market and a sailing boat trip along its coastline with a glass of cava.

•    As you can see, over 100 kilometres of coastline offer endless possibilities.
