Wine in a museum!

The Catalan Wine Cultures Museum is housed in the former Royal Palace of Vilafranca del Penedès, on the Costa Barcelona. Better known as the VINSEUM, its fascinating collection appeals to the senses, vividly evoking memories and experiences. Come on in and prepare to be amazed!

The VINSEUM is the first wine museum in Spain and one of the first in Europe. It’s been telling stories for 80 years! Unforgettable tales about the people who created and transformed the vineyard landscapes, the work that accompanies the rhythms of the land, the traditions forged by winemaking, the science and patience necessary to bring a good wine to the table. It reveals the ancient history of wine in the Penedès Denomination of Origin in such an original way that you soon forget you’re in a museum full of archaeological exhibits, paintings, sculptures, ceramics and coins; instead, you feel you’ve been transported to the terroir, surrounded by vines.

However, this cultural centre in Vilafranca is so much more than an excellent place to journey through the history of wine right up to the present day; it’s also an ideal place for introducing children to wine culture through sensory workshops devoted to aromas, colours and textures with the help of artists and qualified educational staff, while you relax and sample wines from the Penedès DO and other Catalan wine regions. Many wineries provide the museum with wine throughout the year, on a rotation basis, which is offered to visitors at the end of their tour: the icing on the cake!
