Sanctuary of La Mare de Déu de Queralt

Exiting the Sant Llorenç de Morunys road, the Mare de Déu de Queralt sanctuary is located 1200 metres away in between ridges and cliffs; it seems as if it is flying among the clouds during the day and, at night, all lit up, shows us the way to the city of Berga. The spectacular views of the Bages and Baix Berguedà valleys from the Tres Creus mirador or from the Garreta balcony, as well as the lush woods, the Black fountain, or the Vedella fountain, justify going up to the 'balcó de Catalunya' (Catalonia´s balcony), as it is also called. Apart from the recommendable walks in the surrounding areas, one can also go paragliding from the mirador itself. There are three constructions in Queralt: the old hospice, the sanctuary (where the 16th century image of the Virgin is venerated) and the Cova church (where the Virgin was found in the 11th century). The sanctuary is open year long and offers accommodation. On the same mountain, and indicated with a nameplate, is the restored 12th century Sant Pere de Madrona Romanesque church.
