Nature, tradition and culture
The Serra de Collserola Natural Park and the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac Natural Park are two green areas of great ecological and scenic value. That's why they're protected! Incomparable surroundings that you can discover on foot, by ATB or by joining one of the frequent organised walks led by expert guides. The climb up to the Monastery of Sant Llorenç del Munt is particularly interesting: built on the highest of the mountain's peaks, it offers exceptional views that stretch as far as the Pyrenees and the Garraf Massif.
Close by, at a height of 640 metres and in the Sant Llorenç Savall municipality, is the source of the River Ripoll. It then flows south and, before joining the Besòs, forms landscapes of great beauty. Such as the Colobrers stream, it has recently been restored and can now boast of clean water and banks. Or the Monar irrigation ditch, a 10th-century construction which still brings water and life to the riverbank's historic vegetable gardens.
The Ripoll itself is one of the causes of Sabadell's exuberant architectural heritage. From the end of the 19th century onwards, numerous textile factories were built along the river; these, in turn, contributed to the enrichment of the industrial middle-class of the time. A gentle stroll through the town centre highlights such Modernist jewels as the Swiss Hotel, the Lluch office, Enric Casassas College, the Font Nova wash-houses or the Antiga Caixa Sabadell 1859 Foundation. If you're a fan of architecture, this is the place for you!
Textile production was also an important economic activity in Modernist Terrassa. It is no surprise then that the city houses the Textile Museum, a cultural venue with an impressive collection of clothing from all over the world, made using various fabrics and techniques. The Vapor Aymerich, Amat i Jover weaving shed, now home to the Museum of Science and Industry of Catalonia, should be another stop on your stay here. The steam engine that the weavers used can still be seen and you'll be surprised at how good it looks!
