Eudald Massana Noya

As of the mid 1990's, Eudald Massana Noya changed the direction of the family business, focusing on quality wines. For this reason he is a staunch supporter of organic farming (certified by the Catalan Council of Ecological Agricultural Production) and biodynamic farming, which he had practised all his life. The thirty hectares of vineyards the winery works are on the estate, surrounding the farmhouse. They grow the white varieties Macabeo, Xarel·lo, Parellada, Chardonnay, Viognier and Muscat and the red varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Tempranillo, Marcelan and Pinor noir. The family harvests mechanically, and always at night in order to pick the fruit at its optimum point of ripeness. With this raw material they produce a total of 120,000 bottles, 80,000 of which are of cava. Respect for the vine and love of the land are two of the distinctive characteristics of Eudald Massana Noya. The tours of this winery, located close to Sant Pau d'Ordal, are consistent with this maxim. Visits always begin with a tour of the vineyard in the footsteps of Eudald Massana, who usually guides visitors and explains all the stages in the life cycle of the vines. Having being introduced to the winery's philosophy, visitors enter the modest cellar following the journey of the grapes. Throughout the various stages in the wine and cava production process, explanations are educational and entertaining. The tour ends with a sampling of some of the firm's products. In addition to visiting the vineyard and the cellar, Eudald Massana Noya proposes a complete programme of activities. By appointment guests can participate in grape and must samplings, wine and cava tasting courses, and workshops that vary depending on the season.
