Platges de Castelldefels

The beach of Castelldefels is the only beach in town, but it is nearly five kilometres long. It is usually very busy, and organises many activities. It is located between two very different natural systems: the wetlands and reed beds of the Llobregat River Delta and the calcareous massif of Garraf. It is 4.800 metres long with an average width of around ninety metres. It is part of a more extensive beach, as it joins with the Gavà beach and continues without interruption, up to the mouth of the river Llobregat. It has fine grain sand and the entry slope into the sea is hardly pronounced, with a sandy seabed. It also has all types of services as well as access ramps and other services for the disabled. The entire beach is flanked by a lively promenade, where one can park for free. It is very suitable for windsurfing and kite surfing , because strong winds are common. The marina of Port Ginesta is to its right, where there are a wide variety of restaurants, bars, nautical shops and other businesses. Events are organized on the beach by the City Hall, the Castelldefels yacht club and others, such as fishing contests, beach football tournaments, sailing courses or sandcastle exhibitions. These activities take place throughout the year, but especially from April to October.
