Mysteries of Sant Benet

Are you looking for somewhere special to go for a romantic weekend? A morning of culture? A company convention? A special dinner? A creative workshop for kids? At Món Sant Benet, the heritage and leisure complex in the Bages region, you’ll find all of that and so much more! Come and visit this magical place; you’ll be amazed by its thousand years of mysteries, stories and fables.

The history of Món Sant Benet dates all the way back to the Middle Ages, to the year 950 AD to be precise, when a noble family decided to build a monastery to house a community of Benedictine monks. The suppression of the religious orders in the 19th century marked the end of monastic activity in Sant Benet and the site was abandoned until 1907, when the family of the painter Ramon Casas turned it into its summer retreat. The monastery has now recovered its architectural splendour and some fascinating guided tours are organised there. Sign up for one if you’d like to explore the Romanesque, Gothic, baroque and Catalan modernist parts of the monastery!

Another interesting building within the Món Sant Benet complex is the old textile factory located right next to a canal of the Llobregat River. Today, there’s an information point and ticket booth for Món Sant Benet, a shop selling a wide range of local food products, conference rooms and an attractive range of restaurants. If the sophistication of haute cuisine is what you’re looking for, then make sure you book a table at the Michelin-starred L'Ó restaurant, within the complex itself.

Would you prefer to take the kids along to Sant Benet? No problem! Every weekend, all sorts of family-friendly fun activities are organised to make sure you enjoy your day trip to the monastery... Depending on the time of year, family-friendly tours of the historical building, science discovery workshops or agricultural activities in the kitchen garden of the Benedictine monks are just a few of the options for exploring this unique site.

Special mention must be made of the Alícia Foundation, the gastronomic and scientific research project housed in Món Sant Benet. The foundation was created in 2003 by the chef Ferran Adrià and the cardiologist Valentí Fuster. Its facilities include a laboratory, an auditorium and a kitchen, where you can learn how to prepare dishes so delicious you’ll be licking your fingers! Sound tasty? Check out its schedule of workshops.

  • Yes, we know: there’s so much to see at Món Sant Benet! Why don’t you stay the night and take things more slowly? There’s a very pretty hotel within the complex...
