Sustainable plans for this summer in Maresme

In your opinion, what is the greatest thing about Maresme? Summer? Its many sunny days and good weather all year round? Its bright blue skies? That there is no need to choose between the sea and the mountains? There are many reasons to come and visit Maresme... Today we add another one: The Maresme region boasts a hundred companies certified with the Biosphere sustainability label. This involves people working to improve products and services and minimise the impact on nature and the environment. Below you will find some of these 100 plans for you to choose from this summer. Read on, as they will surprise you!

1. Sleep in a treehouse

If you look up, hidden in the middle of a forest of oaks and pines, you will find up to seven wooden cottages in the treetops. The Cabanes Dosrius cottages have no electricity or running water, so if you want to experience an adventure in nature, this is the plan for you. Do not panic, your comfort is guaranteed. The cottages are actually so rustic that they are perfect for a romantic getaway. They also have larger ones so that you can go with your family. Dinner and breakfast are left for you on the floor in a basket that you have to lift up with the help of a pulley. An ideal plan to relax surrounded by nature and silence.

2. Discover how the Romans made wine

In Teià, you will find possibly one of the oldest wineries in the world. If you like the world of wine, you must visit the Vallmora Roman Winery, a site that recovers an old Roman cellar, where wine was made more than 2,000 years ago. The buckets have been recovered, whereas the presses used to crush the grapes have been replicated. There are guided tours at weekends and public holidays at 11 a.m. Once a month there is a dramatised visit, which is perfect for families. To round off the visit, you will taste a glass of DO Alella wine, whereas children will enjoy a glass of grape juice. Do not forget to stop by the wine shop, where you will find, among others, the wines of the winery Joaquim Batlle, Masia Can Roda, Bouquet d’Alella and Alta Alella, wineries that are also sustainable and boast the Biosphere label.

3. Step inside an Art Nouveau house

Mataró hides a little gem that could not be visited until a few years ago. It is the Coll i Regàs House designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch in 1898 and commissioned by the textile businessman Joaquim Coll i Regàs. Come and visit it to enter an aesthetic world, where colour, light and space take centre stage and you get carried away to another era. The house also hosts Art Nouveau matinees in a small, cosy garden. For those who like challenges, there is an escape room, where you will have to solve a mystery.

4. Relax by the pool with a view

In the heart of Calella, you have the opportunity to stay in a small hotel with two swimming pools, the rooftop one with 360º views. Neptuno Hotel & Spa is a cosy accommodation full of charming corners and a gorgeous spa to spend some great holidays. Hitting the beach in the morning, the pool as an appetiser and the spa in the afternoon or the other way round. Each day you can choose the perfect plan, as there are some amazing beaches nearby; some wide ones with fine sand and others with rocks from which you can jump into the sea. The town's three beaches, Gran, Garbí and Les Roques, also boast the Biosphere label.

5. Get active by the sea

After a good batch of sports, there is nothing like relaxing. And that is what the people at Maresme Waves, a surf, paddle surf and skate school and club in El Masnou, less than 20 minutes from Barcelona by train, know a lot about. They offer courses, classes and table rentals to enjoy the summer as well as the sea. A meeting point for all lovers of the sea and water sports. Go there, you will be welcomed with a smile and you will leave charged with positive energy.

6. Share the summer with your loved ones

Bare feet in the sand, a cold drink and a table overlooking the sea to share with your loved ones. There are few summer scenarios better than that. If you want a good spot, write the name down: Gingueta La Rotonda. On El Masnou beach, between the port and next to Maresme Waves. So you are all set for the day. Whether for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a drink, this restaurant offers a wide range of dishes in a superb location. Try the squid.
