The Caldera Festival
If you want to eat well at carnival time, Montmaneu can offer a great escudella (a typical thick Catalan soup) at the Caldera Festival.
Early in the morning, the boiling pots are heated up. When they start to boil, sausage, pieces of belly of pork, rice, noodles and other ingredients are added. While all this boils, people play games of Catalan skittles. This is the ritual that has been followed for centuries at the beginning of the Montmaneu Caldera Festival. This celebration takes place at carnival time, when it's typical to eat wholesome meals before Lent starts. Come to what is also known as the Rural Carnival of Catalonia!
