Museu Mollfulleda de Mineralogia

With a display of the most important mining zones in the world, this museum, which has its own section inside the Museo d'Arenys de Mar, exhibits a collection of minerals that are exceptionally important due to their interest and rareness. The museum's systematic collection is classified by the origin of the minerals, which come from various locations in Spain and throughout the world. Each piece includes its physical, chemical and crystallographic properties, as per a classification known as the Stunz system. The first floor of the building houses the Mineral Museum of Catalonia, which displays practically all of Catalonian mineralogy, classified by regions. The materials from the mines in Gavà and Cardona are also worth noting, along with the collection of geological maps by Dr. Jaume Almera, dating back to between 1893 and 1913. The collection stems from the donation that the collector Joaquim Mollfulleda i Borrell, founder of the museum, made to the town of Arenys de Mar in 1998. The museum is located in the building where Josep Barat, a famous sailor and cosmographer from the area, founded the first nautical school in Spain in 1779. This three-storey building, very near to the Museo Marès de la Punta, was built in the late 18th century and retains its original main entrance made of stone.
