Terrassa Museum. Seu d'Ègara

The Museu de Terrassa is divided into different areas, elements and collections related to the city's cultural heritage. La Seu d'Ègara, the monumental site of Sant Pere's churches, is one of the headquarters forming part of it. The monumental site of the churches of the Diocese of Ègara constitutes one of the most important early Christian archaeological sites in Catalonia. This Episcopal complex, which was completed in the mid-6th century, has three buildings which were set out around a large central courtyard: Santa Maria, cathedral with baptistery; Sant Miquel; and the parish church of Sant Pere. The restoration of the site was started during the late 19th century around the building of Sant Pere. During the 20th century, Josep Puig i Cadafalch was responsible for extending the restoration to the entire enclosure. In 1998 the restoration work was completed and the site converted into a museum which re-opened in 2009.
