Sant Celoni Gypsy Dance

22/02/2020 - 23/02/2020 Sant Celoni

At carnival time, the people of Sant Celoni dance one of the oldest dances: the Gypsy Dance. An event not to be missed!

With a very ancient origin about which not much is known, the Sant Celoni Gypsy Dance starts with the entrance of the Captain of the Cavalry who requests permission to occupy the square. The dance is started by the group of youngsters until the Old Lady is encouraged and takes the Old Man out to dance. However, she needs the help of the Little Devils because she is about to give birth. Every year she gives birth to a different animal, symbolising the rebirth of spring. To finish off, the group of older dancers come out and do the complete dance repertoire. Don't miss this historic dance!
