The Escudella Festival
On the Tuesday in Carnival week, a single dish is served in Castellterçol: escudella (a traditional Catalan soup) prepared in the square. Welcome to the Escudella Festival.
The Castellterçol Escudella Festival starts early in the morning. At 6 o'clock in the morning preparations for the fire commence so that by 9 o'clock there are nice embers on which to sit the boiling pots. When the water starts to boil, the meat is added: beef, lean meat, sausage and chicken. It is slowly boiled for two hours, when it is time to add the noodles and the rice. At 1 o'clock, the meal is ready and you can come and take your portion. It will keep you going throughout Lent!
