Celler Joaquim Batlle

Celler Joaquim Batlle, at 1011 feet above sea level inside Serralada de Marina Natural Park on a three-hectare estate, was founded in 1999. This is La Sentiu, a piece of land facing the sea and under the influence of the Mediterranean breeze known as 'foranell'. The characteristic soil of the region (granite, highly eroded, and made up of white slabs) contribute mineral elements to the wines. The winery employs ecological vine growing and winemaking methods to adapt to the natural setting surrounding the facility. They produce up to 15,000 bottles a year from the native varieties of the DO Alella, Garnacha, Pansa (Xarel·lo) and Picapoll, from which they obtain three different wines named after the signature wind of the region: Foranell Pansa Blanca, Foranell Picapoll and Foranell Garnatxa. The winery forms part of the initiative Parc a Taula (Park to Table), of the network of nature parks of Barcelona Provincial Council, and organises activities such as Nordic walking in winter, poetry readings in the vineyards in spring and wine tourism visits throughout the year with a sampling of the firm's three Foranells.
