L'Ou de Reig

Committed to cuisine that is closely tied to the land is one of the hallmarks of this hostel, named Ou de Reig (Amanita caesarea) in tribute to one of the most popular types of mushroom. Specialties such as bull's tail stew, cod with tomato confit, mushroom ravioli and mató (Catalan fresh cheese) with cabell d'àngel (a type of pumpkin jam) grace the menu. The menu features cuisine without frills served with an ample selection of Catalan wines. Guests can savour the dishes on the outdoor dining in good weather. The building consists of two large structures with a landscaped courtyard next to a large stand of woods, very characteristic of the Montseny landscape. The surrounding nature is clearly visible from each of the seven rooms, all painted in very trendy colours: blue, grass green, earth tones... and in some cases dominated by a large four-poster bed. All rooms are en suite and are equipped with a TV. The hostel offers a living room where guests can kick back, chat and prepare a tour around the area; options include hiking through the Parc Natural del Montseny, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, or visit the quick-flowing waters of the Tordera River.
