Can Carol

A former 14th century masia is currently the Can Carol rural hotel. The building's renovation has cleverly maintained the structure of the original house both inside and out. Antique furniture stands alongside the designer fittings in the bedrooms and the living spaces. Its restaurant service offers a daily menu and a seasonal à la carte menu which stands out for its quality produce and the careful presentation of each dish. It offers dishes such as the terrine of foie with Modena caramel and coulis of apricots; caramelised chicken with soya, onion confit and sesame; and other more traditional dishes such as the char-grilled lamb, cod au gratin with alioli cream, veal fillet or picked rabbit. This country hotel can also boast an amazing location, just below the Palaeolithic caves in Abric Romani de Capellades, discovered in 1909 in the Capelló cliffs region. The legend lives on in this historical building. It is said that the name of the hotel's neighbourhood, Font de la Reina, came about many centuries ago when Queen Petronila, wife of count Ramón Bereguer, passed through the area and breast-fed her son in this place. Local people decided to build a fountain in the same location. At the Can Carol hotel, there is a drinking fountain in the form of a woman's breasts to commemorate this popular tradition.
