A respite in nature

Peace and quiet. Berguedà is a paradise for those who need to flee from the city and get away from it all, even if only for a few hours, in nature at its most peaceful. Stress is nowhere to be seen in this mountain region... and nobody misses it at all! This is a land where purity reigns.

How about starting our route of discovery in the high mountains of a natural park? The Cadí and Moixeró mountain ranges form a magnificent rocky wall, home to famous peaks such as the Pollegó Superior (upper ridge) of Pedraforca Montain, at 2,506 metres above sea level. Although climbing it demands a certain degree of trekking or climbing experience, the asphalted trail that leads from Saldes to the Gresolet vantage point offers a beautiful panoramic view.

Close by in Fígols, we come to an impressive, must-see paleontological site. With over 3,500 dinosaur fossil tracks, dating from over 65 million years ago, Fumanya is one of those places that take us back in time, allowing us to imagine what life was like in the long-distant past. However, in order to understand it better, you really should visit the Cercs Mines Museum. Check out current dates, times and recommendations for a visit.

Do you fancy a walk through a landscape where rock gives way to water? Then head to Castellar de n'Hug: the scenery around the sources of the Llobregat River is truly spectacular with real natural charm, especially in the spring and the autumn, when the three main waterfalls flow endlessly.

Moving downriver, La Pobla de Lillet is well worth a visit. It’s a tiny village with narrow, cobbled streets that invites you to sit down and relax for a while. The views are enchanting and the old quarter is home to restaurants where you can sample some black truffle, the star product of local cuisine in Berguedà. And you mustn’t leave without visiting the Artigas Gardens. Designed by Antoni Gaudí, they’re a fine example of the fusion between architecture and nature that so fascinated the genius of Catalan modernist architecture.

  • Make the most of your visit and explore the Romanesque heritage of Berguedà. The churches of Sant Jaume de Frontanyà and Sant Quirze de Pedret are spectacular!
