Birds in flight

At sunrise and sunset, especially in the spring and autumn, the skies of the sixteen natural parks and reserves of the regions of Barcelona are filled with birds in agile flight. Located in the heart of this set of ideal landscapes for bird watching, the Llobregat Delta is the star attraction of the area. A true birding paradise awaits you, much closer than you might think!

Set between the Garraf Massif and the Serra de Collserola (part of the Catalan Coastal Range), the Llobregat Delta is home to one of the most important wetlands in Catalonia in terms of size, variety of habitats and wildlife species, in particular water birds, since it’s located in the centre of the migratory route of birds travelling from Northern Europe to Africa. Indeed, more than 350 bird species visit the delta every year. They’re in their element there, thanks to the special protection it affords.

In the lagoons and pine forests, on the dunes and beaches, in the meadows and crop fields, you can spot many birds that are difficult to see elsewhere; all you have to do is put on some comfortable shoes, keep your eyes peeled and follow one of the trails designed to help you explore the natural areas of the delta. If you get tired of walking, you can always take a break in one of the hides and quietly observe the various bird species as they swim, rest, nest and take flight.

And if you want to take your birding experience to another level, you can also sign up to the nature activities that are regularly organised in the Llobregat Delta. Accompanied by an expert, you get to discover the area's most important bird species, learn to recognise their songs, distinguish their distinctive features and return home with your head full of indelible images of these pilgrims of the sky.
