Viewpoints Trail (GR 5)

We discover five natural parks that frame the Barcelona metropolitan area on a captivating route that takes us inland from Sitges to Canet de Mar.

The GR 5 Viewpoints Trail runs entirely within the counties of Barcelona and is also known as the Natural Parks Trail, as it crosses several protected natural areas of great interest: the Garraf Natural Park, the Montserrat Mountain Natural Park, the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac Natural Park, the Montseny Natural Park, and the Montnegre i el Corredor Natural Park.

The route begins in the scenic coastal town of Sitges, in Garraf, and heads inland over the Garraf massif through the Penedès. It then links the pre-coastal mountain ranges of Montserrat, Sant Llorenç del Munt, and Montseny and, finally, returns to the sea through Montnegre-Corredor, hence reaching the beautiful sea town of Canet de Mar, in Maresme. The GR 5 is a highly varied suggestion that shows us many of Barcelona's sights: the sea with its fishing villages, the coastal and pre-coastal mountains, which are so differemt from each other, as well as the hilly agricultural lands of the Penedès and Vallès.
