Witches’ Dance in Viladrau
On the Eve of All Saints’ Day —Halloween—, Viladrau commemorates one of the most tragic chapters in its history: the persecution of witches. A captivating dramatized show featuring music, dance, light and fire.
No town executed more witches than Viladrau in the 17th century. The Witches’ Dance commemorates this persecution and represents a meeting of women that took place in Sant Segimon. It is said that it triggered thunderstorms and hailstorms that ruined the harvest. The dance takes place next to a bonfire and fireworks are launched, representing thunder. Take a bag with you if you head there because the hailstones are sweets. Round off the evening celebrating the chestnut festival with chestnuts and liqueur.
