4 original Christmas markets

Would you like to surprise somebody with a really original Christmas present but don’t know where to find one? You’re in luck. Before Christmas, across the counties of Barcelona, several markets are organised that you should definitely check out. At these craft fairs and markets of antiques, books and handmade items, you can find the perfect gift to delight even your hardest to please relatives and friends.

1. Sitges Winter Market

If you love handmade products, be sure to visit the market held on the weekend before Christmas on Passeig de la Ribera. The Sitges Winter Market is bursting with Christmas delights and fills the town with photography, cuisine, baby clothes, jewellery, personalised gifts, decorations, craft beer and creative pastries, among many other options, all of which share in common the fact that they are handmade.

2. Mercantic in Sant Cugat

Are you a vintage fan? Well, don’t miss Mercantic! The lanes around the kilns of the old pottery factory are closed to traffic and stalls abound selling books, vinyl, second-hand clothes, collectors’ items, curios and the most surprising objects from different eras. Moreover, many of the traders have clubbed together to douse the fair with the magic of Christmas, meaning that a great atmosphere is guaranteed!

3. Barcelona Christmas Book Market

The Sant Jordi at Christmas market is back, one of Catalonia’s most important literary events. In this ninth edition of the market, over one hundred authors will be taking part to present their books, which you can take home with you if you like, signed by the author with a dedication.

4. Vic Craft and Second-Hand Fair

All around Vic’s Plaça Major, the Craft and Second-Hand Fair is back, with over 30 stallholders presenting pieces of their craftwork. The wide range of artisan creations ranges from incense and candles, right through to clothes and accessories, paintings, puppets, jewellery, pieces made from wood, leather and ceramics, and much more. Without a doubt, this event fills you with the city’s Christmas spirit.
