6 unique three Wise Men parades

Are you ready to see excitement and magic fill the streets and squares of towns and cities once again? Everything is ready to welcome the three Wise Men from the East as they deserve. Did you know that they are not welcomed in the same way everywhere? For many years, different places have created traditions that make the parades and the three Wise Men’s nights even more special. Would you like to discover them?

1. Three Wise Men Parade in Taradell

In Taradell, people usually welcome the three Wise Men with lavender torches, which are carried by children to light the way for Their Majesties. The smoke and scent of the burning torches also make us recall the frankincense and myrrh the Magi gave to the infant Jesus on Epiphany, thus helping to create a magical atmosphere. The three Wise Men are then received by the mayor, who welcomes them by giving them a very special key, the key that opens the doors of every house in this town in Osona!

2. Three Wise Men Parade in Vic

Fire also plays a leading role in the parade led by Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar in Vic. We find it in the torches that provide warmth and excitement to the procession of the Wise Men, in the paper lanterns lit by children who are not yet strong enough to carry the pine torches and in the lavender brazier carried by the porters. Moreover, the parade has its own soundtrack of bugles and drums: There definitely must be music on the night that makes children dream the most!

3. Three Wise Men Parade in Terrassa

Terrassa is another city where the tradition of going out with handcrafted lanterns to attract and guide Their Majesties has deep and long-standing roots. Surely, the grand welcome party is the favourite moment for children, who are eager to hand over to the page Xiu-Xiu the letters full of wishes they have written to the Magi.

4. Three Wise Men Parade in Igualada

Speaking of big celebrations … Have you been to the parade that Their Majesties hold through the streets of Igualada? You have not? What are you waiting for? It is undoubtedly one of the most stunning parades in Catalonia, with half a thousand carefully dressed pages escorting the three Wise Men and an endless trail of trucks overflowing with toys. The gifts are delivered directly to the children, from balcony to balcony, thanks to the invaluable help of the Magi’s brave assistants: seeing them climb the long staircases laden with packages is so exciting that it will give both young and old goosebumps!

5. Three Wise Men Parade in Sant Vicenç dels Horts

Another town where the three Wise Men are welcomed with great enthusiasm is Sant Vicenç dels Horts. In fact, the parade organised in this corner of the Baix Llobregat region is one of the oldest in Catalonia, a deeply rooted tradition with over 120 years of history! However, the festivities do not start on the streets, but at the Town Hall, as the three Wise Men like to receive the letters written by the children and hear their wish lists firsthand

6. Three Wise Men Parade in Vilanova i la Geltrú

In Vilanova i la Geltrú, the three Wise Men’s Parade is so important that, in the days leading up to it, everyone is very busy preparing for the arrival of Their Majesties from the East. Page Eliseu sets up early on the Town Hall square and welcomes all the children who want to greet him and give him the letters they have written. In the library, stories related to the Magi and their assistants are told, whereas the floats are properly decorated. Everything has to be just perfect when the time comes to welcome the Magi to La Geltrú castle! A majestic entrance like no other that you will never forget.
