9 unique viewpoints

They are raised spots that provide a unique perspective of an area, a town or a place. Seeing a place from a bird's eye view always makes us feel grand, powerful and important. The feeling of having a whole area at your feet creates an unparalleled perception. Would you like to experience that feeling? Here are 9 unique vantage points that are well worth a visit.

Burriac Castle (Cabrera de Mar, Maresme region)

Burriac can only be reached on foot via a tour that starts in Cabrera de Mar. The climb is steep, but like any effort, it will be rewarded. Located 401 metres above sea level, it offers superb views of the coast and the Maresme plain and you can even see Barcelona on clear days. You can play among the castle ruins at locating the main points of the region. This is an unmissable viewpoint that will help you fully understand why the Iberians and Romans used it as a vantage point to control the Laietania region.

Coll Pregon viewpoint (Fogars de Montclús, Vallès Oriental region)

There are many places worth visiting in the Montseny Nature Park and Biosphere Reserve. We recommend one that is easy to access: Coll Pregon. Located right at the foot of Turó de l'Home, you can get there from the Plana Amagada car park. It offers stunning views of the Tordera Valley, the peaks of Puig Drau and Pla de la Calma, as well as the Vallès plain and the sea. If you feel like hiking, you can get there by following the route from Plana Amagada to Coll Pregon or, from Santa Fe, by following the PR-C 208.

The Roc de la Lluna (La Pobla de Lillet, Berguedà region)

You have to like walking to be able to enjoy this viewpoint. A 16-kilometre hike will take you from La Pobla de Lillet to this spot in the Catllaràs mountain range along the PR-C52. After passing by such iconic spots as Roca del Castell and Gaudí's Xalet del Catllaràs, you will reach Roc de la Lluna, an outstanding viewpoint with a panoramic view of the mountains near this range. You will marvel at everything from Pedraforca and Cadí to Puigmal and La Pobla de Lillet. Just breathtaking!

Calaf Bell Tower (Anoia region)

At 56.6 metres high, it is an unmistakable symbol of Calaf and the pride of the whole town. Also known as the lighthouse of Central Catalonia, its construction began in 1670 and was completed in 1889. To reach the top, you have to climb 225 steps, but there are four stops along the way. First, to admire the church from the balcony; then, to go out to the base of the bell tower, where you can walk along the church roof and see the bell tower from all angles; next, to see the mechanism of the old church clock; and, finally, to reach the top, where you can enjoy privileged views of Calaf.

Practical information: To access the site, you can book one of the tours that take place on the second Sunday of each month, after the 11:30 a.m. mass. You must call 93 868 08 33 or send an e-mail to turismecalaf@diba.cat in advance.

Castelladral (Bages region)

This small village, which is part of the municipality of Navàs, boasts some of the best views in Catalonia. From the square, you can enjoy a unique view: the Bages region with Montserrat as a backdrop. Between Castelladral and the magic mountain, it looks like a painting. Everything is so well laid out that you cannot see any motorways or large towns, just isolated farmhouses and, if you go there in spring, lots of green. Do not leave without capturing the moment.

Sant Just Desvern viewpoint (Baix Llobregat region)

If you cross the Baix Llobregat region to reach Barcelona, you are sure to notice a tall, narrow tower in the middle of this town. This is the Sant Just viewpoint. At 105 metres high, it offers privileged views of part of the region and Barcelona. The tower is the old chimney of the Sanson cement factory (still operating in Sant Feliu de Llobregat), which has been turned into a viewpoint with a lift featuring glass floors and ceilings, which will afford you the best panoramic views of the region.

Practical information: The viewpoint is part of a restaurant. You can access if for free if you have a meal there. Otherwise, admission costs 5 euros.

Donzella Viewpoint (Santa Margarida de Montbui, Anoia region)

Near the Tossa de Montbui castle, there is a viewpoint with breathtaking views of the Òdena basin. The Donzella viewpoint is a spur of the Queralt mountain range, from where you can see Montserrat and the Pyrenean mountain ranges of Cadí, Port del Comte and Pedraforca on clear days. Among the first mountains, you can make out the La Pobla de Claramunt castle and, among the fields of crops, olive and almond trees, the towns of Òdena, Vilanova del Camí, Santa Margarida de Montbui and Igualada. This is a treat you cannot miss if you go up to visit the remains of the Tossa de Montbui castle.

The viewpoint of Sant Cugat de Gavadons (Collsuspina, Moianès region)

You can get there by car or on foot by following part of the Camí Ral from Collsuspina. This Romanesque chapel, which still has a bell gable, is a charming spot, especially if we consider that just behind it there is a viewpoint overlooking the entire plain of Vic and some of the main mountains in Catalonia, such as Cadí, Puigmal and Montseny, as well as Les Guilleries and Puigsagordi, which are much closer. A privileged spot in the Moianès region with fantastic views next to the chapel where Collsuspina was first erected.

The Cross of Moià Viewpoint (Moianès region)

A great natural viewpoint that allows you to behold the plain where Moià is located. On clear days, you can also see Montseny, Montserrat and the Sant Llorenç del Munt mountain range. The path to the cross has been adapted and is full of details that were added by a man who devoted his time to fixing it. In fact, if you feel like taking a walk, you will find his private botanical garden next door, which is free to enter.
