At carnival time, Sant Celoni dances its most ancient dance: the Gypsy Dance. It’s a must-see event!
Not much is known about the ancient origins of the Sant Celoni Gypsy Dance, which starts with the entrance of the Captain of the Cavalry, who requests permission to occupy the square. The dance itself is started by the group of youngsters, until the Old Lady gets into the spirit of things and invites the Old Man to dance. However, she needs the help of the Little Devils because she’s about to give birth. Every year she gives birth to a different animal, symbolising the birth of spring. To finish off, the group of older dancers comes out and completes the full repertoire of dances. This story performed as a dance is an unmissable event!
