Continental

The Continental Barcelona is a three-star hotel on the Rambles, next to Plaça de Catalunya. This small, family-run establishment has a long tradition of accommodation and customer service dating back to 1826. The common areas are done up in a classic English style, where wallpaper, floral prints and tapestries predominate, along with porcelain and metal trays as decorative items and antique wooden furniture in natural tones. The hotel occupies a three-story building and has 33 comfortable rooms with a romantic air, decorated in pink tones and with lots of charm. The rooms are appointed with air conditioning, a private bathroom, a TV, fridge and free wifi. George Orwell stayed at the Continental Barcelona during the Spanish Civil War. It was here that he wrote his novel Homage to Catalonia (1937), in which he mentions the hotel several times. One of the rooms was named in his honour.
