Museu del Ciment de Castellar de n'Hug

The Asland cement factory located in the area of Clot del Moro, in the town of Castellar de n'Hug, closed down 50 years ago. The remains, which are still visible today, prove how spectacular one the most significant manufacturing complexes of Catalan industrialisation was, against the backdrop of unique natural surroundings. Currently the factory is assigned to the Museu de la Ciència i la Tècnica de Catalunya, which has set up the Museu del Ciment Asland de Castellar de n'Hug. The first phase was opened in 2002. In 2005 the factory and its surroundings were declared heritage of national interest, in the historic monument category. The visit to the museum enables understanding the impressive ensemble of the remains of this industrial complex which was erected by people nowadays considered as visionaries. This is taking into account the technical and transport difficulties to erect this factory of such importance which supplied cement at times of great growth for the industrial sector, requiring both new infrastructures, homes and new production sites.
