Casa Coll i Regàs

Built by Josep Puig i Cadafalch, it was designed as a single-family residence for a prosperous textile magnate. This is the reason why there are frequent ornamental references to floral decoration. The modernist building is made up of a basement level,the ground floor, first floor and attic, situated below the roof rafters and a turret. The reduced width of the plot, of only is only 11 m wide, meant that the building had to be deep. Sunlight enters the central courtyard, which is surrounded by the stairway. The façade is one of the building’s most notable elements. It has a ceramic-covered platform with an abundance of symbols, such as the Filosa sculpture by Eusebi Arnau, and sgrafitto, which also features inside, on the vertical faces and the roofs. The exquisite iron work is featured on the two large grilles on the main façade and on the handrail of the staircase. The mosaics create geometrical, floral patterns in soft colours and pastel tones. The windows on the ground floor and the central skylight are very striking. The house, owned by the Caixa Laietana bank, was renovated repecting the original design.
