El Far-Sant Cristòfol

The beach of El Far or Sant Cristòfol, also known by the name of La Farola, is at the eastern end of the town of Vilanova i la Geltrú. It is 655 metres long and around wide. Walking along the coast from Sitges it is the first beach that appears, with a gentle slope and very fine sand. The two elements that identify it and give it its name are the lighthouse and the hermitage of Sant Cristòfol. The first now houses the Museu del Mar of the town, with a permanent display on the fishermen, their origins and their tools. The hermitage of Sant Cristòfol stands on the seafront. Next to it is the house where the writer Eugeni d’Ors, one of the great names of Modernism in Catalonia, lived. The beach has all necessary services: lifeguard, toilets and rental of parasols, sunbeds, catamarans, dinghies, kayaks and jet skis. As a result of this broad offer, to which the football pitch and the volleyball court on the sand have to be added, the El Far beach is one of the places best loved by the young in Vilanova. The beach also opens day and night. It is possible to park along the seafront in large paying areas. For those who enjoy walking, very near this beach starts the section of the GR-92 grande route, which goes to Sitges.
