Cal Jeroni mill
This old mill, constructed in the style typical of the mid-18th century atop earlier structures, was built alongside the old main road and is today part of the urban landscape of La Pobla. It also goes by the name of Cal Jeroni, Molí de Cal Romeu or Cal Romeu, and, in recent decades, El Corc, due to the presence of a carpentry shop with the same name.
In the early 18th century, this old fulling mill was converted into a paper mill. In 1737, it was purchased by Jeroni Romeu, who sold it to Francesc Coca, who in turn sold it to Segimon Borrull, a wool merchant from Igualada. Before long, however, in 1760, it returned to the hands of Jeroni and Jaume Romeu, who produced deckle edge paper, which, as a novelty, had the watermark in the lower right corner, and not in the centre, as was customary. In 1878, the mill was bought by Josep Romaní i Figueres. In the 1960s and 70s, it was used to manufacture high-quality cardboard.
