Estrassa mill-Vallès Colony

A former 18th-century cloth mill that, in 1744, was converted into a paper mill by Segimon Borrull and, in the 19th century, was leased to the Guarro and Romaní families.

According to documentary records, the Estrassa mill was operated by Jaume Pertegaz in 1735 and, in 1773, was owned by Segimon Borrull, a wool merchant from Igualada, who also leased the Boixera mill. The name of the mill seems to indicate that it was quite a renowned kraft paper mill. In the early 20th century, a workshop where foreign currency was secretly minted was discovered inside its premises. The mill stopped operating in the mid-20th century and the site was used for housing, giving rise to a residential area known popularly as the Vallès Colony, created during the 1920s by Carles Vallès i Castanyet, musician, developer and owner.
