Rey Juan Carlos I

The organisation The Leading Hotels of the World has designated The Royal Fitness as the best spa in the world for three consecutive years (2005, 2006 and 2007). To obtain this award they have to pass a rigorous selection process during which over two hundred criteria must be met. With 5,500 square metres of space, it is also one of the largest in Europe. It is based in a building adjoining the Rey Juan Carlos I hotel and is surrounded by extensive gardens. The complex has a modern and functional design. All the spaces have large picture windows that let in natural light. The facilities include two temperature controlled pools, one outdoor and another indoor. The former is 25 metres in length and has pressure jets and underwater loungers for hydro massage. The covered pool is thirteen metres long and has an integrated Jacuzzi. The thermal spa area has more Jacuzzis, mini pools with cold water, massage showers, Turkish baths and a booth with the floor covered with ice and another with steam perfumed with eucalyptus or lemon essence, depending on the day. The dry spaces include saunas (with an air temperature of 80 to 100 degrees Centigrade), sanarium (at 60 degrees) and caldarium (38 degrees). The treatments on offer include foot reflexology, osteopathy, physiotherapy, Shiatsu massage, acupuncture, Bach flower therapy, and massages with chocolate, honey and volcanic stones, used in Ayurvedic treatments. If you are looking for something more refined, you can request the King´s massage, with four hands, or a pamper bath, in which essence of coffee, milk, chocolate, wine and even gold are added to the water. In addition to the Royal sessions, they also offer packages with various complementary treatments. For example, Sedas de Persia (Persian silks), consists of an exfoliation with saffron and other spices, and a massage with essential oils and silk handkerchief. The Lux enables you to enjoy any of the available packages with your partner. In the gym you can take part in instructor-led activities for butts, abdominals and legs, stretching, Pilates, yoga, line dancing, belly dancing, Aché (an intense Brazilian dance) and Karanes (exercises to music). There are also twelve treatment booths, a hairdresser, a café and a restaurant with terrace.
