Albet i Noya

Can Vendrell Estae, dating back to the thirteenth century, has been devoted to the culture of the grapevine since the Middle Ages. The Albet family arrived in 1903 when Joan Albet i Rovirosa was hired to work replanting vineyards after the phylloxera plague. After that he worked as manager and started making wine again. In 1924 Joan Albet i Rion and Joan Albet i Carbó modernised the production process, commissioning the construction of the Modernista-style cellar. In addition to the old farmhouse, this building remains one of the most appealing to visitors. The next generation, with Josep Maria and Antoni Albet i Noya at the helm, took an important turn in 1979 with the ground-breaking introduction of the culture and production of organic wine. In addition, they seized the opportunity to finally acquire the estate in 1986. They have now built a new cellar in a building blended in the with landscape that ensures optimum production and storage of quality wines. They also have converted all 76 hectares of land they farm into organic vineyards. In addition, they have developed a pilot project, a sort of wine archaeology, for the reintroduction of several varieties that preceded the phylloxera plague.A medieval farmhouse, a Modernista-style cellar, a new ultramodern cellar that blends in with the landscape and one of the first organic vineyards are the main attractions for those who visit Albet i Noya. Reserved for the end of the visit is the tasting of their wines and cavas. At first, visitors are impressed by the landscape that surrounds the winery. Isolated from populated areas, Albet i Noya is surrounded by rolling hills covered with vineyards in the vicinity of Sant Pau d'Ordal, in the municipality of Subirats. The medieval farmhouse opens its doors to visitors, and the tour focuses mainly on the Modernista-style cellar. One can also see the new and spectacular building where the other winery buildings are located, as well as the completely operative cellar. In the farmhouse, guests can enjoy a tasting of the firm's organic products in a fully equipped tasting room. Finally, all visitors can buy wine and cava in the winery shop.
