La Pobla bridge
The growth of La Pobla de Claramunt’s population on both sides of the Anoia River and the arrival of the railway in the late 19th century made it clear that a brick-built bridge was needed in the centre of town to replace or complement the existing footbridges, where the passage of people and goods was slow and not always safe.
In 1913, the mayor explained the need to build this bridge, as during the winter, the town became cut off from the railway, and suggested the construction of a reinforced concrete bridge. After many vicissitudes (for example, the first stone was laid in 1925 in a different place from where the bridge was eventually built, as a flood in 1926 evidenced the need for a different location), the engineering work was finished and inaugurated in 1930. It was opened to traffic in December that same year.
