Sant Andreu de Llavaneres Pea Festival
The vegetable gardens in Sant Andreu de Llavaneres are renowned for growing peas and that is why every April the city organises a pea festival.
Also known as the green pearl, the garrofal pea is one of the most appreciated varieties of this legume. It has been grown in the Maresme region since at least the 17th century as evidence shows it was traded in Barcelona at that time. Planting begins around October and picking starts in April, which is when Sant Andreu de Llavaneres celebrates the Pea Festival. During the festival you can savour the tastiest dishes, buy peas directly from the producers and enjoy a gala evening meal with this legume as the guest of honour.
