Christmas food fairs and markets

The Christmas food fairs and markets in the counties of Barcelona are a unique opportunity to enjoy the traditional flavours of this festive season. These markets are filled with artisan products, cured sausages, cheeses, sweets and wines that convey the richness of the region. Strolling around these fairs means discovering authentic recipes, ideal for preparing a festive meal with local products. In addition, many of them have activities for all the family, such as tastings, culinary workshops and live concerts - a delicious way to experience Christmas!

1. Nougat Fair in Llinars

As the December bank holiday approaches, Castell Nou de Llinars gets ready to host the Nougat Fair, a perfect event to kick off the Christmas festivities with a wide variety of nougat and artisan products. You'll find stalls, workshops and performances for all ages, so don't miss this delicious event full of tradition!

2. Christmas and Artisan Nougat Fair in Cardedeu

Cardedeu holds its emblematic Christmas and Artisan Nougat Fair, an event that combines tradition, gastronomy and culture. The local pastry chefs present the Cardedeu Artisan Nougat, a high-quality product made with simple but exquisite ingredients, such as marcona almonds, honey and natural essences. You can't leave without trying the torró de borrego (anise biscotti nougat), a unique recipe created in 2000. The fair includes traditional activities and stalls with decorations and local products that you can buy as gifts or enjoy at your table - a must-visit event to experience Christmas with all five senses!

3. Farmer's Market in Baix Llobregat

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a good escudella (vegetable broth) with pilotes (large meatballs) and galets (large pasta shells traditionally eaten with this soup). At the municipal and farmers' markets in the Barcelona region you can buy the freshest vegetables and bones to make the broth, as well as minced meat, sausages and chickpeas. You’ll especially like the fruit and vegetable market held every Sunday in the Parc de Can Mercader in Cornellà, where most of the products come from local farmers.

4. Prat Breed Poultry Fair in Prat de Llobregat

Another classic Christmas dish is roast chicken in a casserole with prunes and pine nuts. It is a delicacy that requires a robust, quality bird, such as the blue-footed capons raised in El Prat de Llobregat. Would you like to buy one? Then come to the Poultry Fair where you’ll find them for sale at a special promotional price at the stand of the Consell Regulador de la Mostra Comercial.

5. Rooster Fair in Vilafranca del Penedès

Another fair you’ll like if you’re looking for a quality bird for your Christmas roast is the one that has been held since the Middle Ages in Vilafranca del Penedès around St Thomas’ day (21 December). Capons, chickens, geese, turkeys, black roosters and Muscovy ducks are the stars of a poultry market with a very special feature: it is the only fair in Catalonia that includes the possibility of using the abattoir service.

6. Truffle Fair in Centelles

Do you know how to give a touch of distinction to the typical St Steven’s Day cannelloni? Add grated truffle to the filling and you'll be like a top MasterChef! Yes, we know this mushroom is not known as "the diamond of the kitchen" precisely because of its affordable price, but you'll be happy to know that you can buy them quite reasonably at the Fira de la Tòfona (Truffle Fair) in Centelles, a centennial market that is being held this year in this town in Osona county.
